Preventative Treatment

Dental Anxiety

At River Dental Arts, we understand that fear of dentistry can make it difficult for anxious patients to get the care that they need.  We are here to help and will work to earn your trust.  We pride ourselves on thorough explanations and gentle, personalized care.  Dr. Emily and her team take getting-to-know patients seriously. An important part of that is learning about  patients’ dental history, as well as any dental anxiety, triggers, or phobias that they may have. Taking the time to have these conversations allows Dr. Emily to tailor treatment to each individual’s needs.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Our team at RDA offers nitrous sedation to help patients overcome the apprehension that may be holding them back from maintaining dental health.

Nitrous oxide, sometimes known as “laughing gas” is an option for light sedation of both children and adults. We routinely use this safe method for any aspect of care, including preventative cleaning visits and deep cleanings.

Patient’s often report that nitrous oxide is a “game changer” when it comes to helping them get through appointments with much less stress. Because the effects of nitrous oxide wear off so quickly, adult patients are able to easily drive home after their visit.

Oral Sedation

Some patients find it beneficial to take an oral medication in pill form about an hour before their appointment.  This can be helpful for adult patients who have a more lengthy treatment scheduled. While the medication can make patients quite sleepy and groggy, they are awake and able to communicate during the appointment.

Because memory and motor skills can be inhibited by oral sedation, patients need to plan to have a friend or family member to take them to and from their appointment. Dr. Emily will review medical and dental history carefully to  determine if oral sedation is a good option for an individual adult patient.
